Letter from the Recruitment Chair

Letter from the Recruitment Chair

Hello and welcome to the website of the Eta Tau Chapter of Sigma Sigma Sigma at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida! My name is Emma Griffith and I’m this year’s Membership Recruitment Director. I am so happy that you are interested in going Greek and joining a great community on campus.

When I first walked on campus, I had no idea what a sorority was and was completely overwhelmed by the whole experience. If you feel the same way, it’s okay! All of this is going to be new and fresh for you, but take advantage of it. Even if you are not 100% sure you want to join a sorority, feel free to attend the events anyway (and take your roommate and suitemates with you too)! The least you can get out of it is free food; and the most you can get out of going to the recruitment events is finding a home away from home.

I went from being completely intimidated, to having multiple chair positions, and then all the way to becoming the recruitment director of Tri-Sigma. All of this was accomplished because my sisters believed in me and pushed me beyond my limits. If I needed someone to study with, eat an entire pizza with, or simply just be there for me, my sisters have always been there and I couldn’t imagine my college experience without them.

My best advice for going through recruitment would be the following:

1.      Talk to as many sisters from all the sororities as possible! The more you get to know each sorority, the more certain you will be about which you fit in best. (Remember at least ONE name of a person from EACH sorority each day).

2.      Come in with an open mind! Even if you’re drawn more to one sorority at first, you might end up fitting better with another as the week progresses.

3.      If you’re having a difficult time choosing between sororities, try to choose the sorority where you know you could grow and be the best version of yourself, not the sorority with the cutest T-shirts or the most delicious food. Remember: This is a lifetime commitment.

4.      Get your homework done early in the day so you have no worries when attending the events. You can even sneak in a nap during your break to have more energy once the events start at night.

5.      Do your research on each sorority’s mission and philanthropy to see if it’s something you’re interested in. Social media is a great tool to look around for more information.

6.      If money is an issue, don’t give up hope. Ask if there are payment plan options; chances are that the chapter will most likely be willing to work with you.

7.      If you don’t get a bid the first semester, don’t be discouraged and please try again the following semester! We like to see those that are persistent.

8.      Ask questions! The recruitment directors and Rho Gammas are there to help you, not scare you away!

9.      Bring a positive attitude and be yourself

I hope that you find that Tri-Sigma can be your future sisterhood. We cannot wait to see the new additions to our wonderful chapter!

Ever Forward
